Will my information remain confidential?
Yes. Your information will be securely stored on the Patent Express system until you choose to release it to others. Please note however that patent applications become public documents within 18 months of filing with the United States Patent and Trademark office.
Will I be forming an attorney-client relationship with a lawyer?
No. The Patent Express system has a self-guided workflow that will assist you in preparing and filing a patent application entirely by yourself. If you get stuck during any step and want a U.S. patent attorney to assist you, the system will allow you to request a patent attorney to take over. During this process, a conflict check will be performed to ensure that your technology does not conflict with other clients of the particular patent attorney that you decide to work with.
I am a U.S. Patent Attorney/U.S. Patent Agent, can I participate in the Patent Express system?
Yes. We are in the process of enabling other U.S. patent attorneys or U.S. patent agents to post videos, lessons, and content on the Patent Express systemThere are a number of ways that patent attorneys and agents can participate in Patent Express. Patent Attorneys and agents can contribute to the Ask a Patent Expert section of Patent Express and answer questions of inventors and attorneys. From there, you can build your reputation and get potential client leads who want more specialized patent services than what Patent Express can offer.
In addition, Patent Express offers each U.S. patent attorney an opportunity to partner in our Patent Express Pro-Bono scholarship program. Each U.S. patent attorney in good standing with the United States Patent Bar can refer one free pro-bono client to Patent Express each year to prepare one free provisional patent application through Patent Express. I have a clean energy or renewable technology invention that will help the environment, does Patent Express offer any scholarships?
Yes, but we ask that you be referred to us through a U.S. patent attorney first. We offer each U.S. patent attorney 1 free pro-bono referral a year for individual inventors who are either grade school students or have ideas related to improving social welfare, humanity, or society.
