Food Patent/Copyright/Trademark

Posted by . updated on 12/2/2007
I have invented a food condiment. I have a meeting with an executive at Baja Fresh next week to sample the product. I have no patent/copyright/trademark for the product. I'm concerned they'd steal my product. What legal protection do I need?

How about getting them to sign a Non-disclosure agreement (NDA) before the scheduled meeting. This type of agreement is very common. You might want to call your contact before the meeting and tell them that you are bringing the NDA along to the meeting and you expect them to sign it. I have seen situations where the client shows up with product and NDA in hand and the potential customer will not sign. Good Luck! You should send them a non-disclosure agreement in advance of the meeting and with sufficient time that they can run it past their legal department. Failure to have an NDA could be very costly. A reputable company will not hurt you. one that is not so upstanding can make you hurt bad. Let me know if you want me to prepare one for you. Caleb
