I have an idea for a new cell phone product.

Hello, I have an idea that I believe will catch on very well. My idea is a very basic improvement to already existing devices (cell phones) that are used EVERYWHERE in the world by millions upon millions of people. My question is this, if there are multiple manufactuors and models of the existing device, would they have to pay me to use my idea if I get my idea patented? What protection does a patent offer me from manufactuors in other countrys outside the united states?My idea is EXTREMEY simple yet VERY effective and I believe it could become a standard addition to the industry in the future.
