Firstly, note your idea down in a specific journal maintained for the purpose of noting down various ideas. We call this your lab notebook. This is done to protect your conception date as in the US, we have a first to invent system. Jot your idea down, clearly state the time when you first thought of it, get it witnessed as soon as possible.
