Patent Filing Procedure

Your patent package services all make reference to "filing" the patent application. Whether it's the basic "do-it-yourself" package or the Gold package, are patents filed through your service all done electronically? If so, what technical requirements are necessary (i.g. digital certificates, need to download special programs, etc.) Also, how much time is saved by filing electronically vs. via paper application?

Patent applications are file electronically through Patent Express for an additional fee (approximately $175 to have Patent Express paralegals do the electronic filing for you). Patent Express does provide you with all the information you need to file the patent application yourself and save the fee however. For the first time patent filer who doesnt file patent applications that often, process is easier if you do an Express postal mailing of your completed patent application to the USPTO. If you want to electronically file yourself, Patent Express will provide you instructions to do so yourself. The process is quite involved, you will need a digital certificate and a full version of Adobe Acrobat.
