Trademarking a Logo
Posted by Anonymous . updated on 2/26/2009
Hello,
Should I trademark just the graphic part of my logo, or trademark the graphic part of the logo with my business name in it as well?
Or would I have to have two different trademarks; one for the graphic, and the other for the business name?
Thank you.
I have attached a picture that gives a basic outline of my logo and what I'm talking about.

First of all, one does not "trademark" anything. Trademark is a noun, period.
If you are using a composite logo/word mark like you outlined, you likely can register each element separately and the composite together. Ideally, you register all three (the two elements plus the composite), but that can get expensive. If budget is a concern, registering the composite gives a great deal of protection.
