Viable for patent?

I want to apply for a patent on a new method of decoration on a shoe. The method is not new to other products, just to the shoes for a specific purpose. With this new decoration method for shoes it will be a key component to new business and make them a novel product in marketing efforts.
Does this sound viable for a patent?

You may apply for a design patent for the shoes, as the decoration may or may not contribute to a different functional purpose of the shoe.
