who owns my invention

Invention advice.
While at work as an engineer for maintainance on large industrial machines, i came up with an idea on how to make one of the regular jobs go from hours to minutes.
I showed my initial sketches to my boss and he was not interested, citing the develpment costs, well thinking he was wrong i decided to build the components anyway. I used 3D cad, then gave that to a CNC machinist to make.
They work far better than i could have imagined, and my boss has found out, now he wants the idea.
Is it reasonable, as
1) he refused my approach, but i only have one witness
2) we dont have the capability to produce the unit on site
3) i did it in my own time and at my own expence
It is a unit to do with where i work, but can be used in other centers aswell.
