Will my product sell?
Posted by Anonymous . updated on 12/4/2009
Okay, I really want to know how to know if my product has a chance.
My product is not a toy, but it is something the kids will use at the beach, and the moms will love that it keeps the kids busy for a few minutes while she unpacks. Once the kids are done, mom is ready too, and this product is cute and will attract other beach dwellers. So, I think I have a couple of perks aside from the functionality of the product as it has visual appeal and serves a great purpose. How do I know though? It's so much work. I still have to find someone to make the prototype, but... if I take a test that says...NO. Well...please advise; Are there panels or unbiased groups-my market will be younger kids (2-9) and parents escorting them to the beach. I've seen where products are put before their target markets for testing; how does that happen? thank you.
Thank you.

Well, to tell off hand if your product has mass market appeal, may not be possible since market appeal relies on a lot of factors
1)Demographics-something you have already covered.
2)Multi-Purpose Functionality-something that kids and moms may use perhaps not just at the beach but other places as well
3) Design and Catchiness of the Name of your product
4)What's in it that kids really want to have at the beach?
and a couple more,
the best way to gauge reaction would be to create a product survey asking questions tailored to judge the consumer s reaction without revealing the product detaills, else hire someone to design something on a small scale and place it in toy stores or stores that would stock your product for free initially and ask them to tell you how many flew off the shelves
Marketing a product is never easy, it must be something for the market at the right time, the right place, and most importantly YOU must create the want for your product through clever marketing strategies that work for you.
