What does a Patent pending mean? Video Transcript

I am going to answer what it means when someone says their invention is patent pending or patent applied for. All this really means is that they have filed a patent application with the US Patent and Trademark Office and it is pending in the system. It has not been issued yet. That is all it means. It does not mean that they have a monopoly right yet. It means that the application has a date of filing with the US Patent and Trademark Office. Using these terms falsely without actually having an application in place might result in fines and there are laws to protect against false indication of patent pending status.
